Well, I made another quick trip down to Pool 2 on Wednesday night. It was a gorgeous night to be on the water but fishing was a little slow for me, but it was great to be on the water for the 2nd time during the week. What I concentrated on was pitching B FISH N TACKLE’s 5" K-Grubs to wing dams and shoreline slack water or back currents.
I shared the boat with my buddy Chris who is shown above with a nice 22". I have to re-state what Mike W. said earlier, you get a low 20" fish on and you have one heck of a battle on with the current. It definitley seemed that Chris hooked a 5-7 lb fish. The current was still ripping through and the water was still murky, but it seemed a ton cleaner than my Monday trip down there. The majority of the fish we caught were in the 14-17" range with even a sauger coming to the boat. In the 2nd picture Chris is holding a typical fish for the evening. Chris did hook into something "REAL" big on a wingdam and battled this fish for a good 5-7 minutes, swinging us from one side of the boat to another, making me pick up my 2nd anchor. It even drew the attention of a passer by boater enough for him to go from 1/2 throttle to a dead stop when he seen Chris’s rod bent in half. After the battle and just catching a glimpse of the fish the fish spit/tore the hook loose. We are almost positive it was not a walleye, but I gues we will never know. We did have a little flurry of action right @ 9pm to 9:15 where the active fish came up shallow and hammered the last couple of casts we were making.
I think with the water dropping and clearing up that the trolling bite should heat up down in Pool 2. I have only made a couple trips down there to P2, but I’m impressed at the potential of this fihsery has and it is located within the cities. I look forward to hitting this body of water a lot in the future. Until next time make sure you stay safe on the water and enjoy the weekend!
man, I’m really glad that your friend Chris decided not to wear a bikini
He told me that he left his Speedo at home. So I knew we were safe
