Hot waters in the 80 + range and walleyes are on a biting frenzy.
We trolled the lake with cranks, we vertical jig live bait and plastic, and we pitched jigs with live bait and plastic to the shallow in the wood. Which technique worked? Well I guess you will have to read the rest of my report to find out how Rick caught nice eyes like these two that are going to feed Rick’s belly
I made plans for a fishing outing Sunday with a old friend that hasn’t caught a walleye over 15 inches. I knew the best time for monster walleyes on the Rock River is when the water temps are in the 80’s. At least that’s how it’s been working out for me the last three years and it’s still working.
Here’s Rick’s first walleye over 15 inches on the left which Rick is still smile today and I don’t think Rick will forget this day which makes me a happy angler.
Most of our fish were caught pitching the wood in the shallows or drain tubes in 2 to 3 fow from 7:00pm to 8:30pm with 1/8oz Nite-Lite jigs in the blue glow or pink glow by Fin-Tech Tackle Company, click on www.fin-techco.com to get these jigs. We tried these areas earlier with no luck. With these hot days the best time to catch walleyes like the ones we caught on the right you have to fish from 5:30am to 8:30am or 7:00pm to dark to catch eyes like this one.
The boat traffic was bad until 6:00pm on the lake or river, it didn’t matter. Wave runners to recreation boaters made you feel like you were on Lake Michigan with three foot waves smacking your boat. But we hung in there and did catch some fish trolling the lake but they were small like this one on the left.

JP happy to see you found some fish. Maybe I will get out soon. It depends on of course
. Well lets not go there!
Thought about the wood and other spots but would have spend more time getting the kiss of death’s crank baits out of trees than fishing.
Good report as usual.

Thanks for the report Jeff. Sure is hot and humid alright. But still can’t beat a day on the water with doing something else. Gee, think we are hooked?

Thanks, Bill
