Cattin’ Around on Pool 3

There are days when everything goes great! And there are days like today! Rain would find you no matter where you hid! I had very wet parts well hidden in guidewear that cannot be described thouroughly on a family website. Let’s just say I was wet, and leave it at that.

The evening started out good enough. Even though I was upset that the bullheads I wanted to catch for flathead bait were being inundated by floodwaters thanks to our lovely weather. Add to that the fact that the sultry evening croaked 2 dozen mombo sucker minnows to the tune of $24! I was expecting results to say the least! God knows we now had/have plenty of cutbait for a while!

I don’t know about you all, but the thought of watching the sun go down while fishing for cats is awesome to say the least. We had a small racoon show up early with his nose in the air, and proceed to walk down a number of logs to a dead carp, and pull him to shore for dinner! Mmmm, Carp. We started out the night soaking some of our expensive cut bait on #6 circle hooks, and Brian K "No-Roll" sinkers in 4 ounce, held by Ambassadeur 600 reels attached to St. Croix Classic Cat rods.

We did manage many runs, but landed few. This particular cat was landed by Joe Linder of Hager City WI on a fat and happy sucker minnow. It went 14.3 pounds on the digital scale. We fished current seams off of the main current. Basically, the current pushed right into shore from where we anchored up. It was fun! Pictured here is Corey Waller AKA wallerbass1 with a channel cat that was getting the better of him! He really didn’t want to touch it because it had whiskers, or some darn reason! We couldn’t tell ’cause he was whining so incoherently. Finally we told him he could throw it back, and he couldn’t get it back in the water fast enough. I don’t know who was more scared, Corey or the fish? You decide.

Hi to MudCat Kid who we saw in spot number 465.682. Good to see you in the dark, never would have recognized you in daylight. She’s pushing three o’clock AM. Time for bed! Have a great weekend!

  1. Good report Chris! I’m happy to see there were no gloves in the pictures!

    How big was the channel?

I chickened out of fishing because of the threatening weather last night…I’m glad that you got out…it’s about time! Kinda hurts when each time you cast a buck hits the water huh?

  2. Good morning Brian, I would say that the channels were between 5 and 8 pounds. It was a tough night but we had a ton of fun. Tuck forgot to mention that the flat head that Joe caught was his first one. We had a beer to celebrate!!! when we told him to grab it for a pic he said ” do you got some gloves or something?” Tuck and I looked at each other both thinking the same thing “GLOVES!!??!!” Tuck let him know “men dont wear gloves” . I have come to the conclusion that catfishermen at 2am after a couple of beers could collectivly solve all of the worlds problems by sunrise. I just hope all the ideas we had last night work. And Tuck, Im all in for the bears in Pine City!!!

  3. Don’t forget to write down my theory on Quantum Physics. You know that we can do away with our dependence on foreign oil.

Congrats Joe, I kind of forgot it was his first of many to come I hope!

Notice Corey’s shirt. He was an “Airwick” of bug juice! Joe and I thank him for the liberal dousing of repellent because we did not need to with him having so much on! Plus the fact he used up all the bug spray!

    I’ll send the pics.

Here was Corey in the light with his channel.
