Had today off for my B-day so the boys and I hit the water. We started on Spirit Lake and caught a few eyes and smallies. But with glass like conditions during the morning we decided to run down to West and fish docks. It didn’t take long and Cole connected with a crappie.
There were alot of fish in the docks and we had a great day catching many different types of fish.We also found some areas where the gills were on spawning beds and had a great time catching those bull gills that make West one of the best gill lakes in the Mid-west.We caught many 8-9″ gills-what a blast!!! Here is Cole with a gill.
We were slip-bobber fishing, pitching plastics, vertical jigging Pilkies, and throwing Beetle Spins at the fish today.Austin worked 3″ Powertubes in the shallows and under the docks. He stuck with this almost all day and was rewarded with some largemouth bass.He didn’t get any big ones, but of course Cole did.He has had the big fish hot stick as of late. Here is Austin with a bass.
Cole had just caught the biggest largemouth of his life a few days ago(Sat)and topped it already today.Check out this bruiser!!!
Well I got to let Cole log on so he can put another post up about his big bass.
Also to the nice person I talked to at the Templar Park boat ramp(Chris ?)this morning. If you read this drop me a e-mail or Pm so we can talk about some fall fishing.
Take care,
Ryan Hale

congrats on a great day. That is one nice big mouth bass. How big is that crappie, sure looks nice in the pic, 12 1/2 inches?
I may be in need of a partner soon
Good going with the boys Ryan.

Happy Birthday!
Great report Ryan and pics. keep up the great job and taking kids fishing

Hope you had a good B-day. That is one nice bass. Sure could have used that a couple weeks ago.
Great pictures!
Not many boats on Spirit Lake early yesterday…what part of the lake were you on? My 6 year old son and I stuck with Spirit until lunch time. We caught plenty of ‘eyes, but just one cracking the 14″ mark. I found it amazing that the same fish wouldn’t touch our live bait, but were very aggressive when we ran #5 SR at about 2 mph. Good report!
Ryan, here’s to a Happy B-day
Nice fish, and a great way to spend the day!
dave
Thanks for all the b-day shout-outs from the gang.Back to reality today,10 1/2 hours at work.
Jason,we didn’t even measure that crappie.Caught it on a Powertube, always like to get a few crappie like those.
NWBuck. We were on Stoney point from 5-8:00 a.m.,then in Hale’s Slough for about a hour, then pulled leadcore and spinners in Anglers Bay.The bugs were driving us crazy.
