I had a fishing trip of a life time.I was fishing a company walleye tournement and was fishing with a friends 12 yr old son and we were catching fish and dad was not and you could just guess on the fun I was having.Remember the name Tyler Strait because I am sure we will here of his presence in the years to come on the walleye trail
We caught all our walleyes trolling #7 and #9 jointed rapala,s in 4to 5 ft of water. Gold black and firetiger were the top colors with both producing equaly. We trolled at 2.5 mph and it didn,t seem to matter if your plugs were out on boards our dead sticking both worked well.
As you can see by my opening photo the change in the weather as it was miserable early and cleared by noon to be a beautiful afternoon. The fish did not seem to mind as they bit equaly all day.Our total catch was 6 fish 5 fish from 20 to 22 in Wow and one 17in fish. The format for my tourny was total inches and me and Tyler ended up with 123 in and first place was 130 in we were happy with second place and my young partner cashed his first tourny winnings. And I am glad I was there to share the moment
As far as the yellows we caught quite a few trolling in small lake and we had a team that fished minnows off Dodge,s and caught lots if I were to target the yellows I would move until I found active fish or drifting might be the ticket for putting some fish in the boat.We caught one 1 1/2 # cat and Tyler said as long as I took his picture with all the walleye,s he would take mine with the cat Joe,s Guide Service 641-749-2239

Joe here’s a tip of the hat for a job well done, even if it was FUN Ya gotta love catching fish and 2nd in tourney is pretty good too, but kids and fishing can’t be beat.
I was out over the weekend and a young man came up to me and asked “Mr. would you happen to have some extra line and hooks?” I asked him how much he needed, and when I knew I had what he was looking for set him up with line, hooks, split shot, everything he wanted. The look on his face as he said thanks and took off running back to his buddies was “Priceless”. Hopefully he’ll get to be as good as Tyler someday.
