Bass Report

I had the oppertunity to spend the past three days fishing with my cousin on the Madison Chain for bass this weekend. We ended up catching more bass in three days than I can ever remember. We kept an actual count for tournament scouting reasons and ended up with 123 bass in three days. For most of those we were swimming jigs.

We started off fishing Friday afternoon at about 3 on Lake Wabesa on the deep weed edges. We were using soft plastics and spinnerbaits during this time. After about an hour, we ended up shifting to a swim jig, and we never turned back. This was due to a couple of factors, the greatest being a strong southern wind that made most presentations very difficult.

Aside from Lake Wabesa, we spent some time one Lake Monona fishing rubber worms and craws in 8 to 12 feet of water. We were able to catch a few here, but the numbers were a bit lower fishng in the clearer water of this lake. We also managed to get a short muskie and a northern while trying to locate bass. We finished our Friday off by catching a few bass just to the south of the beltline in the shallow weeds throughing our swim jigs.

Overall, I will have to store this trip into my memory banks as one of the most unforgetable weekends of fishng I have had in some time. I can not even to begin to tell you how much fun we had. We not only caught a large number of fish, we had four doubles just fishing on Sunday alone. When all was said and done, I will not only remember the fish, but the good times had over the three days as well. It was what fishing is all about. Tight lines to all.

  1. Thanks for the report Darin. Sounds like a very good time. I’ve heard those lakes have some nice eyes in them and now know they have alot of bass too. Thanks for the information.

    Thanks, Bill
