Mille Lacs Lake Walleyes 5-22-05

Wild, Wet and Windy is the best description I can give for this last weekend. The waves were from 2-5 footers making boat control difficult at times.
Water temps varied from 52 degrees on the eastside to 54 degrees on the west side.
This first picture is of a nice 24″ fish boated by my son.

The weather was not good for camera use saturday with periods of rain. The shallow sand on the north end gave up some smaller fish but the fish were scattered.
This next picture is of one of many fish that just barely top the 20″ mark.

With the high winds sunday morning we opted to trailer to the west side and hit a couple local reefs a little less affected by the wind.
The fish we caught over there were all over the under 20″ slot. This last picture is another nice healthy 22″ fish caught slip bobbering a rock pile.

The weather is letting up during the week and taking a turn for the worse on weekends, hopefully this pattern will improve for the memorial day weekend.

Good Fishing!

I'm married to my biggest supporter Denise and we have two children, Josh and Nikki. Fish primarily on Mille Lacs lake in central Minn. My favorite type of fishing is for Walleyes but will fish for anything that swims!

  1. Hey Hooks, where were you fishing I got home last night and I almost fell over a few times, not kidding . My mind still thought I was going up and down.

  2. I know what you mean Rob.
We accessed out of Myr Mar yesterday to spend less time running.
I used their restroom before driving back home and it’s so narrow, I was boucing from one wall to the other, just trying to stop from swaying.
Man I had sealegs, and those 3 footers were tough on me to say the least.
The weather was worse on the north end saturday, trying to control the boat in the big waves we took a few over the side, back trolling the waves, too slow our presentation. It was a two drift sock day.

You would every once in a while get those big rollers that make your eyes bigger as they break into the boat, just right to spray ya good.

  3. Yeah, it was not the best launch in the world(shallow). I dingged up my prop getting her off the trailer . I’m more of a East Sider , not all that familiar yet with Launches on the N or W side.

When I got home, my girlfriend took one look at me and said “Whats wrong? What happeneded?” I said .”nothing”. She said I did not look very good. I felt like I was hit by a truck, drowned, and spent a day in a wind tunnel .

And the coffee was cold, the sandwiches were wet, and I can hardly wait til next weekend to go fishing again. Did I finish your sentence correctly?

    Thanks, Bill

ps. Nate, if you see this how about posting what Keith K. said about fishing on a bad weather day. Your memory is better than mine. Thanks.
