Late May on Lake Wisconsin

A strong south west wind on Sunday morning made boat control just a bit more challenging, and bright blue bird skies seemed to hint that the fishing would be tough this morning on Lake Wisconsin. But Josh and Larry Wilkinson didn’t seem to care much about any of that. All they were interested in was catching some walleyes and saugers.

So we broke out the crawler rigs and slow trolled with the electric motor in depths between 15-19′. This time of year, day in and day out, its hard to beat a nice, fat night crawler when fishing for walleyes and saugers on Lake Wisconsin.

If your fishing for a big fish, go with the crank baits. But if you just want to catch a bunch of fish, its hard to beat the crawlers.

Larry took care of the rods in the back of the boat and after and hour or two of fishing, with a little help here and there, Josh could pretty much take care of the ones in the front rod holders. This little guy was a pretty good fisherman and as the morning wore on, a friendly competition broke out between Josh and his Dad. In the end though, it ended up a being a tie as each caught there own limit of saugers.

The fishing was pretty good on Lake Wisconsin this morning and despite the wind, we all had a pretty good time.

The walleyes and saugers are hungry, and the good fishing we are currently experiencing is only the beginning. It should last all the way through June and with a little luck, it could last all summer.

Good luck out there guys!

  1. Thanks for the report. Sounds like fun and a very educational trip for Josh. Great to see youth getting excited over fishing. By the way, great looking boat there.
    Thanks, Bill
