Mille Lacs Lake 5-22-05 report

I made plan’s today to get on the water before the nasty weather made its way into the Mille Lacs area. The weather forecast was for increasing winds with 60% rain. I got on the water at 6:45am and headed to the northend sand in the Malmo area. The winds were light at around 7-10 and light rain was coming down. I thought to myself why am I going to fish in this kind of weather again after last weekend!

Well after starting my first drift on the morning I knew it was going to be a better day! I boated 5 walleye on my first pass. I was fishing in around 17-18 feet. The size of my fish ran from 14 up to 23 inches.

I ended my morning when the wind speed increased to around 15-20 out of the south. Knowing I had a 5 mile run back into a head wind I ended my day on the short side! After getting beat up last weekend I was not going to do that again.

I finished my day at 9:30 with 8 walleye being caught rigging a leech on a lindy rig. So far this spring I have caught all my walleye on red hooks. I drifted with a wind sock just under 1 mph. The fish were pretty aggressive hitting the bait pretty hard! I saw a large number of nets out this morning….much different from last weekend.

This was a solo trip with just yours truly, so sorry no pic’s to go with this report!

I hope this weather improves this week! I sure am sick of clouds, wind……and rain
