Sunday wasn’t the best weather you could ask for to fish but when you have the time you must make the best of it. This Sunday was a very special fishing outing because it was with a friend I haven’t seen in years. My friend wanted to catch walleyes but with the cold fronts the last couple of days I thought it would be better to go after some of those jumbo white bass that are starting to spawn. Man did it pay off, check out the rest of my report to see how Rick and I caught these 14 to 15 inch white bass.
The weather Sunday was cold and cloudy with the sun popping out just once in a while to warm your face. Rick and I started off down town Fort Atkinson area between the bridges pitching and fippling plastic whith very little results. Then we tried vertical jigging jigs with small fatheads and bingo. Most of are fish were caught on 1/4oz nuckle ball jigs in the glow/green or nickle color. All are fish caught in this area were males that were mikly very heavy. Are fish were caught in 4 fow with a very rocky bottom with very little current was key.
After playing with all these 10 to 12 inch milking males I ask Rick if he would like to go after those big 14 to 15 inch females, Rick said what are we waiting for. It was just great being out with a old friend that I haven’t seen in at least five years this Sunday which Rick felt the same, catching fish was just a plus this day. After our move to find those females the vertical jigging wasn’t working the best so I went to a lure my buddy Ted Peck turn me on to and that was a 1/8 to 1/4 oz white road runner with a small fathead casting into the shallows. Once again it paid off.
White bass wasn’t the only thing I caught on this cold and cloudy day. Here’s a nice buffalo carp I caught vertical jigging with four pound test line. Man what a great fight, had to use the trolling motor to chase it down or you could of kiss my jig good by. All in all my good friend and I had lots of fun for the cold weather conditions. Rick thanks for the great times we shared this cold and cloudy Sunday which I would do it again in a heart beat and we should do it again soon.

Nice report Jeff,
Sharing good times and ole times are always the best with friends. Glad to see the white bass are doing well on the Rock. Sometimes you can’t keep a line in the water. And they say the Fox in Oshkosh is good fishing. Apparently they don’t know “The Rock”
D
Thanks for the report Jeff. Those fish sure put up a good fight.
These are the fish to go after when trying to get kids more involved in fishing after they have had a few bouts with the panfish. They are fun and sure love to bend our rods. No wonder some of us kids never want to grow up. lol. Its way to much fun with these guys.

Thanks, Bill
Glad to see the ol’ roadrunner continues to Rock whiteys on the Rock!
Pretty jealous of that carp…ha ha! Great report as always!
Thanks guys, the white bass run should be in full swing this weekend. So take a kid fish and watch the smiles.
