Here is a quick little report… Tuesday evening a buddy of mine from Alexandria decided to drive down and come out for the evening. We hit the water around 5pm and headed up to the Hudson channel. After 1 pass through the channel with no fish we headed south. With the first pass in 22-25fow we hit these to nice eyes…
After a couple more passes we boated a few more walleyes, all above the legal limit… He is a picture of myself with some nice St.Croix walleyes..
Our trolling consisted of running the two front rods with 3 ounce snap weights and shallow diving stick baits. On the back rods we ran deep diving Reef Runners, in natural colors… Here is something to remember when running deep diving cranks, make sure to tie on a mono shock leader, this helps keeping fish on, when running no-stretch line like(power-pro and fireline)… One other side note is, all these fish were caught trolling 1.9-2.2mph..
You neglected to mention the crankbait that turned the fish, the stick bait or the reef runner?
Erik were you runnin’ upstream or down? i assume up. Good point about the shock leader! Many anglers miss fish with super lines
Thanx Captnkeno
Both baits turned fish.. On the snap weights we ran shallow reefrunner and shad raps… We were running 40′ of line, then adding a 3 ounce weight, then letting out an additional 60′ of line.
Most of these fish were caught trolling down river, which isn’t usually the case on the St.Croix… I’ll be out for the next couple of days, with a more In-Depth report.
