Bass Pool 13 Weekend of 5/1

Sorry this is a little late. I mainly trying to figure out how to post the report here. I’ll have more coming now that I have it figured out.

Fishing this past weekend on Pool 13 of the Mississippi River was both tough and rewarding. The cool temps and the high wind made some areas tough to fish as well as making a lot of anglers cold. For those how stuck it out there were some big fish found and some good weights brought in to the tournaments. Most fish were caught in Spring Lake area on wood but I found some on rocks around Sabula as well on Sunday. Most the fish I heard caught in Spring Lake were taken on plastics such as tubes or creatures. I, however, found several fish Saturday on plastics but none were keepers. I finally opted for a new jig I wanted to evaluate on Sunday and caught a couple nice 3lbers in just a few minutes. The jig was a color called “Bruised Banana” from Strictly Bass Lures and had a matching Banana color chunk by Prowler. It was surprising how well that yellow stood out in the muddy water and over cast skies. Regardless, of what you used the key seemed to be a very slow presentation and the bite was often very subtle. Until conditions warm again slow down and be patient.

Water temp varied from 49 to 59 degrees depending on location and cooled by a few degrees as the weekend went on. Wind was up to 30mph from the north and the air temp climbed from the mid 30’s to the mid 50’s everyday. River was up some but still little under normal for this time of year with a high current
