Pool 9 Report, 3/31

Had the opportunity to fish with Dave Koonce on Thursday and although the fishing was tough, had a great day. We started the morning pitching B Fish N ringworms and paddletails. After a couple hours without a bite, we switched to hand lining, something I had never done before. It was great to learn a new technique, but still no fish. We moved from spot to spot, changing techniques, colors of plastic, everything you could think of and all we had was one lousy small walleye. I was feeling kinda bummed that we we couldn’t put together a decent catch, when Dave’s phone rang and it was none other than James Holst himself. He informed us that he only caught 1 fish all day while fishing Pool 4. Now I’m feeling pretty good, caught just as many fish as James, so I’m thinking maybe I should try this guiding thing. Just kidding. Although the bite was tough, I had a great time, and would recommend Mr. Koonce to any of you guys. He knows the river and is a great guy. Thanks Dave, can’t wait to do it again.

  1. Thanks for the report. With the quick coming of high water from lots of run off from up to 20” of melting snow and rain the river has really changed. Nate said earlier in the week fishing was awersome but now its way off big time. Am still heading out for the river today though.
    Thanks, Bill
