What a great Easter for my family. This day was a little special for us as Cole was confirmed early this morning at sunrise service. After service the boys and I talked Char into letting us fish for a few hours before our afternoon Easter meal.Storm Lake in Nw Ia was our choice today. After getting on the water and making sure everthing was in working order the fishing started. We worked jigs tipped with minnows in water from 5-7′.The boys each lost nice fish but the bite was slow for us.After alot of changing colors, plastics, baits,Cole finally boated a nice 15″ eye.I apologize on my pics today. The batteries were dead so we had to get pics off the water. Here is Austin with a eye.
With our time running short on us I decided to work some shorelines by casting plastics. We hit the jackpot on this presentation. The white bass were in shallow and were on a awesome bite.It was non-stop action for about a hour for us.Here is Cole with a few nice white bass
The boys caught around 40 fish.It was a blast to watch them casting and setting the hook on these fine fighting fish. Here they are with a few more nice fish.
We ended up anchored in 5′ of water and casting within a few inches of the shore. After a little trial and error we found that the H2O jigs from B FISH N Tackle were the ticket today. They have a little plastic holder on them that makes them a great choice for keeping your plastics on.Here are the colors we found the best.
It was our fisrt open water trip of the year and it went great.Best of luck to all of you.

Alright Ryan and boys! Glad you got out – did the boys break in the new sticks? Hope they were pleased and I think the fish better watch out this spring to fall. Those guys are gonna rip up the water now! Good luck Cole and Austin – try to out fish dad every chance you get!

I had a great time yesterday fishing at Storm Lake. Austin and I used our custom rods. It has no weight to it. I felt very comfortable with it. We were casting jigs into the shallows for white bass. We had a great time casting.
Thanks for the great rods Chuck.
Cole and Austin.
Good work fella’s I was wondering if you guys made it over there. Congrats on being confirmed Cole not to much wine now!
Ryan did you talk to anyone else over there? Anyone doing any good? I almost came over the boat’s just not quite ready for the water yet.
Sounds like a good time was had by all!!
Todd, actually there were around 5 or 6 other boats in our area and we only seen one other angler set the hook on a fish.
But there were alot of people catching white bass where we were at.
I heard DNR is going to start netting for eyes this week.

They look like some dandy white bass
Thanks for the report and pic’s Ryan. If I lived In your next of woods I know where I’ll would be fishing. Try those Nuckle ball jigs the same place you used the H20 jigs and report

Jeff, the boys did catch a few fish on the Nuckle Ball jigs. But they they had easier time putting new plastics on the H2O jigs.Simply need to work with them more so they can thread plastics on better and faster on the Nuckle Ball jigs.
They are going to get a huge workout once we start to jig fish our eyes on the Iowa Great lakes, season open May 7th.
