Mille Lacs Report 3-6-05

The weather was just about as nice as one could ask for this past weekend. The only set back for this tired angler is that the jumbo perch didn’t cooperate. I spent the weekend tailgate jumping……drill a couple of holes, spend a little time watching the Vexilar and with no luck move on………

Well this past weekend I can say I experienced my first slow perch bite. Yes we caught some fish, but the big jumbos were not to be found by this group. I know of some anglers that did have some luck. My buddy Travis had a nice bunch of perch yesterday with the biggest at 1.5lbs

I spent my time fishing the mud flats in the main area of the lake. North Boot, Center Flat, Deans, Agate Needle to name a few. We marked fish in a few locations but found that many of the fish were just lookers! I guess you just can’t expect to catch fish every trip right, thats why fishing is so challenging.

The weather up in this area today is not cooperating. Winds at 15-25 mph….I plan to get back on the ice Tuesday and hopefully have better luck finding active jumbos.

Don’t forget that this Saturday March 12th is the 2nd Annual White Cap Inn Perch Pounder contest. Make plans for some March perch fishing on Mille Lacs. Hunters Point Resort has roads to many of the flats. And their access fee is only $5 for the rest of this ice season. I saw a number of cars out in these areas this weekend…..showing the conditions are good for travel.

  1. We experienced the same thing yesterday, but don’t feel bad, Bob. My wife can jinx a lake of any size. She has done it to me before on Leech also. Actually that’s not true all of the time, or I would quit taking her.

  2. We also were on Mille Lacs yesterday, we fished the boot flat in 30-36FOW i also noticed that there were many people moving around, we chose to stay in the spot we did all day between the 7 of us we kept 70 perch 12 being 12 inches+, 10 tullibee 2lbs + and countless walleyes, i hope to get back there this weekend to try again until then TIGHT LINES

  3. You do make a good point in staying in one spot. I do think That I made too many moves……I also caught/released 4 walleye Sunday with the biggest at 21-22 inches. The Boot looked pretty crowded! It has been hit hard this winter….

  4. The bite must of been hot on Sliver because they were packed in like sardines on Saturday. Our group fished Blue, 9 mile and Boot and we caught some nice perch but it was a tough bite to say the least.

I’m going to have to hire a P.I. to follow jeremy around

By the way Bob, thanks for all the great reports.
