It was a beautiful day to be on the water. We have not seen the sun much and I wanted to soak up some rays. The yellows were really on the bite today which just made for good therapy for cabin fever.
I fished south of state dock in about 10ft of water on a rock reef that was put in the lake a couple years ago.I used a buckshot rattle spoon tipped with a minnow head. The fish were 6in off the bottom and today they wanted the spoon jigged aggresively. Ussually I only connect on about 60% of my bites but today they really engolfed the jig and I connected on the majority of my bites.I talked to a fellow angler that said the nite before he caught 2 nice walleyes after sunset. I may have to try the nite bite soon
I left the ice with 15 nice yellows and this was well before sundown which has been the best bite.I believe the bite is going to pick up even more with late ice.The ice was still 15 in thick some shore areas you have to use caution as the ice is thawed away from shore. There are still a few brave souls driving on I personaly am hoofing it the rest of the winter as there are weak spots where shacks set and heavey traffic I could,nt resist taking a pic of a beautiful sunset on my way to the truck Joes Guide Service 641-749-2239
Thanks for the report Joe. Looks like you are getting your ice fishing time in that you wanted before spring gets here. The fish and sun are cooperating too. As we move into the late ice bite the fish will start biting better as their enviroment will start changing with warmer temps and their appetites will improve.
Thanks, Bill
Nice looking meal Joe. Have you got any catfish through the ice this year yet? I always get a couple in the summer, just wondered if anybody picked any up in the winter to.
No cats yet but its the time of year they usually start. I have had days a few years back when you could catch 5or6 a day. I hope to get that again as it would make a good report
Joe,
Where is State Dock located on the lake? My brother and I were up there yesterday and put a good 10 hours in and only got 4 yellows and 1 walleye. We mainly fished Dodges, with about 2 hours over at the west aerator.
Nate
State dock is right by the harbourage canal from dodges you would be north east.If you need more direction shoot me a PM.I also fished yesterday with very little luck
thinking about heading up there today, any recent reports or updates?
Nate
