Iowa Farm Ponds

Took the kids out for a bit of ice fishing on Sunday. Caught a number of nice 9-10″ gills and some decent crappies. Here’s my son Andrew with a nice 13″ slab.

The 2nd picture is my daughter Sam with a nice 12″ slab. Sure is great to see the smiles on their faces.

  1. Wax worms on a tear drop for the gills, swedish pimple (blue/chrome) with a waxy for the crappies. My daughter was using the LX-3 and boy did she get the hang of it real fast. She would catch a gill close to bottom and then notice that there were fish up a ways in the water column and she would raise her jig right up to them and catch another one. She’s a keeper.

  2. Zamer, do you ever get down to Badger Creek? That used to be my favorite lake, but the pressure started to get pretty bad before I left. I still have lots of good spots if you are looking for huge gills.

    Nice report!

  3. I haven’t been to Badger for a number of years for the hard water fishing but have been out on the open water. I used to concentrate on the road bed (midlake) and one of the points on the northwest end. Send me a PM with your hot spots and I’ll go give them a try. By the way, my daughter was fascinated by the Lx-3. She is pretty darn good at using it also.
