Family fun,Farm ponds,Jan2,05

The boys and I set up my big 8’X 8′ portable today on a farm pond that has had a great bite still going for us.Once we got the shack all ready Cole was right on the fish again.

We could see down about 5′ and caught around 100 fish give or take by sight fishing them.It was very fun for Cole and Austin to catch these fish this way. They love to sight fish as much as I do.Austin had his favorite red Hali on,Cole was using a pink Glow Devil, and I was trying many different lures. Our bait of choice were maxworms.Austin did try some Gulp! but they did not want plastics on this day. Here is Cole with another fine gill.

Mom even brought out Cade for a little while so he could catch a few fish.He had a great time catching a few gills & perch.Char also brought her other “baby” Pete out to fish with us.He was very interested in ice fishing and of course wanted to retrieve the fish we caught.Char and Pete.

It was a fun afternoon with the family.I did take a fall between holes with the power auger so please be carefull everyone.I was in a hurry drilling holes and just like that I was flat on my back with the auger still running.Cole got it shut of and no harm was done. Here are Cade and Cole with a fish.

  1. Now thats what I call a family outting Ryan. You guys are having toooooo much fun down there. Becarefull with that auger. Hate to see you chew up a leg. Thanks for the reports. Always enjoy reading them. Thanks, Bill

  2. Hey Ryan, sounds like a great time. Nothing better than a family playing together. You have probably heard this a million times, I know I did. “Enjoy them while you can, the kids will be gone before you know it!” Not sure people really realize what that means untill they are gone, have other interests, or in another part of the country, etc.

  3. That is sure true. They grow up fast. Too fast. The best years of your life are when you are struggling to raise your family because thats the days when you have them with you. Then they are gone and busy raising their own families. I’ve been fortunate because my kids and I are close and I’m VERY happy about that. But its still not the same as having them with you all the time. Enjoy them and treasure those moments together Bud. Thanks, Bill

  4. Another great report Ryan. I can’t wait to make it on the ice this season! Looks like I might get a bit of time Thursday morning to fish before class, should be fun!

  5. Enjoyed the report as always. Good to hear about kids enjoying the outdoors, especially when the entire family is taking part.
Will the boys be doing any guiding this spring? If they keep catching fish like they have the past year they will be the lakes TOP FISHERMEN (thanks of course, to their Dad).

    Keep up the good work!

  6. Thats a good lookin crew there. Can’t beat the family togetherness. You and they will always cherish these days.

  7. Austin and I were back on this farm pond today.thought I would put a few pics up.The fish are still on a excellent bite. It’s great for kids as you don’t have to wait for more than a minute and you’ll get bit.Alot of small fish but we did get a few perch close to 9″‘s and some nice gills.Austin also got a largemouth through the ice. Here is me with a gill.
