The bite on pool 4 is still going strong. With lower water levels fish can be found everywhere. For sauger the area below the Y remains consistant. Doo’s and ringworms plus paddletails all are working well. What are the best colors? For me the chartreuse and chartreuse/pepper are working the best. As Kerry reported on the river forum the best depths range from 16′ to 22′. Today the fish were not too aggressive though. Holding the bait completely still just a inch or so off bottom worked best.
With the skies becoming overcast in the afternoon we made an adjustment to shallower water to make eye contact. Again the fish were not real aggressive, it was more of a wait em out bite. Our best presentation was Pitching ringworms and K-grubs in 11′ to 16′ close to current breaks.
No one color seemed to be preferred today. A few fish would be taken on brighter chartreuse of firetiger and then a switch to netural colors would be in order. Just keep switching up often.
Even though we were pitching most of our bites came when the bait was vertical. Slowly crawl the bait along the bottom and pause often. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can get a couple of more outings before the new year. Good luck and we will see you on the water.
Good to see your still out don. I have not made it down since I ran into you guys in everts getting warmed up. Hopefully the weather will cooperate so I can get back down there. Thanks for the up date .
Great report Don, good to see you can still get out fishing, were all iced up here on the rock.
Nice report and great pictures Don. I pulled the batteries and winterized the motor yesterday, so my open water season has come to a close after 8 continuous months in the boat. I’ll have to live vicariously through you until March when things start to open back up.
Thanks for the report. Sounds like a good solid bite on saugers with B-Fish-N plastics. Thanks, Bill
Thanks Don…all I can say is…It stings our toes and bites our nose as down to pool 4 we go!
