Pool 4 Walleye Mississippi River 11-26-04

I got the chance to fish with my nephew Mike once again on a Thanksgiving fishing trip.

So we headed up to Redwing to boat a few walters.

We got to see some friends, spend time on the water together. Mike was a real champ and put some fish in the boat.

Read on to get our how toos.

We started out pitching ring worms to the shore line.

We were using 1/8 & 1/4 ounce jigs.

Changing up colors was a key to getting bit.

But I have a photo of our three best colors of the day.

Mike and I went vertical a couple times but most the fish that we were getting were smaller sauger.

So we returned to pitching.

Most our fish were coming 10 to 16 feet of water.

We didn’t hook any big fish.

Our two largest came bing bing one right after the other and they wre 21 inches.

Here is a photo of the Walleyeboy with his catch..

I can say one thing I wished I would have pre-rigged abunch of ringies at home in the warm garage.

Cause by about 1:00 pm my fingers were so numb it was tough to get them on the hook.

It was like my fingers were drunk…I new what I wanted to have happen but man Mike had fun watching me.

Here is Mike with his limit of eaters that he took home to Duluth.

Take care

Hope to see you on the water next time.

  1. You are an awesome uncle Reefrunner!!! I had an influence very similar to you when I grew up, I can’t repay him enough for the time he spent teaching me bow hunting, walleye fishing, pheasant hunting, goose hunting. He was/is a real hero in my life!! I love seeing Mike’s smile!! Keep up the great work, you have touched a life in a way most of us only hope to.

  2. Yea Mike is a great young man.
He is going to be fourteen in 14 days.
So I get him for another year this summer of fun filled fishing.
We always seem to have a blast fishing and the time just flies by.
I’m looking forward to June 2005.
Happy Holidays everyone and hope to see you on the water.

  3. Fourteen is a great age. Big enough to pull their share of the work getting ready and all but small enough they still like to hang out with us oldsters. My Chris is 14 and he amazes me sometimes with his enthusiasm for the outdoors. Lets hope they never change!
