Pool 4 Report

The fishing action remains hot if you are planning on hitting the river this weekend.Today Leinieman was looking forward to climb out of a tree and into a boat.

We did not feel a early start was needed. Our first priority was to share some coffee cake with Steve at Everts!

Our mission today was to find a few eaters.

Fish can be found in numerous areas right now, at least anywhere from Everts up to the dam. There are of course alot of small fish so keep an alert eye on the locator. If you are not picking up the bigger marks on your locator, Move!

The fall season on pool 4 has shown on clear pattern, change baits and colors often. I have not had a bite remain consistant on one bait or color. What has worked well for me is to have 3 jig rods at the ready. One with a ringworm in either purple or Chart. One with a dark colored hair jig, and one with a Fireball tipped with a minnow. Find a area holding bigger fish and keep switching up on em! The Paddle Tails from BfishN Tackle are also a good choice to throw into the rotation.

James hit on the importance of color choice in his last report. His decisions based on bright or cloudy skies and water clarity on right on. Here are a couple of more tips that may help you out.

In current areas the fish preferred brighter colors like chart. In slack water areas they preferred the darker colors like purple. Using a contrasting head color, Like James stated is also key.

We fished several area between Everts and the dam. Fish were everywhere but our best depth was right around 17ft. Both areas with current and slack water area are holding fish. With just a slight wind blowing, slipdrifting is working well right now.

Have a great holiday and we will see you on the water, Don.

If anyone happens to land a prop while fishing on the Wisconsin side, let me know.

  1. Thanks for the update Don. I’m looking forward to spending the day down there on Saturday. I’m sure that the river will be empty except for us.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  2. well Leinie and myself are still trying to figure it out! I did not hit anything, we just finished a drift and fired up the big motor to idle back up river like we had been doing all day. Shifted into foward and nothing! Tilted the motor up and the prop was gone.

  3. The mystery of the missing prop. I have never heard of one coming off before. I have had them come up missing a blade or a portion of it but not the whole thing. The trip was still a success as I escaped the tree stand and got out on the water for a bit of fishing. It was a great day not to cold and the fish cooperated and the fish gods let me bring home some eaters. We also made it to Everets in time for cinnamon rolls with iceing and hot coffee. Thanks Don for the jigging lessons heres a shot of Steve V. welcoming us to the shop.

  4. Here’s a pic of Nate and his rig. Not sure who the fishing partner
was but good to see you out on the water. Steve

  5. Good advice Don!
I had a phenomenal morning fishing with Jarrad(Fireflick) yesterday. We pretty much stuck to ringies, hair, and K grubs…we didn’t have any Paddletails ro try
He will post a report with some awesome fall piggies shortly. Just wished I didn’t have to leave at noon!

  6. Good to see you again Tom. You are right, it is tough to get off the water when the bite is going so strong. Got a chance to get out today with Bob Johnston. Bob got on a hot streak on some of the nice sauger that we CPR’ed.

  7. Thanks for the report and pics Don. You sure make a guy want to be on the river.
Tommy, welcome to the pool 4 addicted club.
    Thanks, Bill
