The second weekend of the deer season greeted hunters with mild temps and active deer. The gun season here in zone 2 has come to an end and most hunters were successful. The 2nd weekend showed signs that the whitetails were in full rut, bucks were oblivious to the hunters in orange, and were concentrating on chasing does. Hunters in zone 1 still should have some great hunting with one more weekend left.
With the mild temperatures we haven’t made much progress on the chances of early ice for the area lakes. If the forecast holds true I don’t expect to see ice until December. Lets hope the weatherman is wrong. Despite the reports the ice fishing gear will be hitting the shelves soon to help you get stocked up for the upcoming season. A few diehards are still out in their boats chasing walleyes and they’ve been fairly successful. Jigs and minnows are still the best bet. Gull, North Long or Round Lakes have been good choices especially in the afternoons. Good luck in the woods and on the water!
