A week of fishing one of my favorite bodies of water was just what the doctor ordered! I got to spend a week in the new boat, with some great folks, and catch some darn nice fish! My first night out was with Brian Berle, owner of Whitecap MFG., makers of Whitecap splash guards. We hit the north end of the lake, and caught slots as well as bigger fish. Our biggest this night was a 26 that we got just before going in. We were pulling Husky Jerks and Rogues, and the occasional Shad Rap. Here is Brian with a slot that went home to the frying pan!
Next was Mike Kramer, AKA Nubbinbuck on the website. We spent our evening trolling Husky’s, and shad Raps around the Pikes Point area. The size and girth of the fish in this area was dramatically diferent from the fish on the north and east side of the lake. These fish were HUGE! we had 25.5″ fish weighing 7 pounds or better. We left about 2:40 AM, and as luck would have it, Dustin trolled through there at 3:00, and the fish absolutely turned on! Our bad luck!
Dustin and I actually got to fish together for an evening, and it was a BLAST! We had waves and moon, and cooperative fish most of the evening. We fished a steep break that was very hard to hold, but Dustin did a great job using the wind to our advantage. The boat was actually pulling us at a 45 deg. angle along the break, and that is what it took to hook up with the fish. The new Rapala Glass Perch was the hot lure for Dustin this night as he boates the first 6 fish. Then I switched over to my old standby, an old balsa Husky. I pulled the next 6 fish with that. As always Dustin, it was a blast catching up on old times, and making new memories! Here is one of Dustin’s coming in to the boat.
Brian Hilgardner and his father joined me for another evening. We had been looking forward to doing this for quite some time! Unfortunately, Brian was sick as a dog! The weather was drizzly, and there was no moon to be found. We concentrated our efforts around the casino which was the only thing providing light. We caught our fish in a very tight area in a weed to gravel transition. Most of the fish we caught came on turns to the right or left. Again this night, glass perch and Rogues were the hot baits. This year, my fish count was lower than in years past. The fish were shorter, but no doubt weighed more inch vs. poundage! It just makes me look forward to next year even more! Thanks to Big D for letting me use his cabin! See you all on the river!

Pike anyone?
And lastly….
Nice report tuck! Just got back from the big pond myself just 1 hour ago . It was great fishing with you again and catching up .
Sounds like you guys are having fun. Hows that new motor working out for trolling? Thanks, Bill
Tuck-
Just wanted to throw a big thanks to you for a great night on the water! Ends up I’m just starting to feel better. Next year we’ll have to hook up again. Next year we’ll have to try a night that’s not slate black (eclipse and miserable weather). Thanks also to Big D for the sleeping accomodations, what a beautiful cabin. Tuck, although it was probably a below average night, I think you got my dad hooked for next year. Great job putting us on fish in tough conditions! Time for some bowhunting the rut, but I’ll see you on the river in late November.

The motor did well, there are a few tweaks I need to make. Eight hours of trolling caused her to load up a few times. I think a straight synthetic oil will help a lot.
