Menomin & Tainter WI. Report

The fall bite continues to pick up on local lakes. Both Lakes are producing some fine eye action for me. The determining factor on which lake to chose has been wind direction. On both lakes the eyes are preferring a slow presentation. Taking the wind out of the play gives me a one up.

Vertical jigging is the only presentation I am using right now. Both hair and plactics are putting fish in the boat. The 1st picture is a couple of combo’s that are working well. Fuzzy grubs are also another good option. I am sticking with dark colors and have found no reason to change. On Menomin the depths you find fish will vary day to day. Anywhere from 6 to 20 ft can produce. The key is to stick close to the old river channel. The second photo is a few fish from Saturday.

On Tainter I am fishing steep breaks into the river channel. You can cover various depths quickly until you make contact. I have been covering depths ranging from 7 to 23 ft. Today the 18 to 23 ft range proved to be best. The plastic bite is good on Tainter right now. Ringworms and Berkley powerbaits are producing as well as hairjigs. The 3rd photos is a couple of eaters that hit plastic. See you on the water, Don

  1. Hey Don, Is having that much fun legal??!! lol. Thanks for the report and showing what is catching fish for you. Hows that new boat working out? Or are the kids using it all the time so you can’t and have to stick with the big rig? How far away is Tainter from Menomin and how big of a lake is it? Thanks, Bill

  2. Bill, Tainter is up the road about 10 minutes from Menomin. The two lakes are joined by the Red Cedar river. I am still using the big boat because the kids are still using the river boat. Tainter is a little over 1700 acres with a max depth of 37ft. The fall fishing is hot on both lakes so you are welcome to join me sometime.
Jeff, I look pretty darn goofy when I smile but I will work one in. I will probably have to attach some kind of warning on it though.

Thanks for the report and pic’s Don, but how about a smile.

    Awesome Patrick!
Nice report Don…Have you found mornings and evening better than midday or vice versa?

Nice looking eater sized fish….come to think of it, I have not had a walleye dinner in over 2 years? I think I am do! Save me a seat!

  4. The bite on Tainter is consistant all day but I have fish going in more locations. Menomin’s strongest bite is mid-day. Always got a open seat for ya Steve.
