Though the wind switched to and from every direction possible, it didnt put a damper on the shallow water smallie bite. With me in the boat on Sunday Oct 24th was Tom Mowbray and his cousin Mark. I had been emailing Tom related to the artificial bite we were having and he and Mark ventured out to 8 different bait shops on Sat in search of a variety of colors of number 7 Rattlin Raps. Baby Bass continues to be the hot color as we caught the large majority of fish on this pattern. The Stanley Big T 1 1/2 oz spinnerbaits also accounted for a few nice fish including Tom’s personal best 21 inch smallmouth which is pictured in this text. Great fish!! Mark was game to try a variety of colors during the day but never really found a color that matched the success of the baby bass pattern. We ended the day with 32 smallies of only one was under 17 inches and we also caught a fat 18 inch walleye and a few minutes later a beautiful 27 incher on gold Rattle Snakie spoons. We did do some live bait fishing and had success there on the edges of the shipping channel. When we were down to one Baby bass Rattlin Rap I pulled out the same color pattern in a Rapala DT 6 crankbait. This bait quickly proved to be as deadly as the Rattlin Rap and will get plenty of use in the next few weeks. I look forward to this fall bite every year and am glad I can share it with my clients. Good luck the rest of the week and be safe.

Chris:
Nice to see you posting again. Hope the fishing gets better and better. That is a great place to be fishing and am looking forward to getting up there in my boat sometime.
Mark
Welcome back Chris. You were missed. Thanks for the detailed report. Sounds like you are back to having fun-fishing! Thanks, Bill
Hey Chris, great to see you this weekend.
We could not get those deep fish to go for us to any degree of consistency. Came back shallow, quit at 11 am, boated 16, my best was 20.75″, 5#-15, watched it spit 4 crayfish at the net. Any rattlin Rap having an orange belly seemed to work. Fin-S Shad also was good. A few on suckers.
I appreciate your concern for our safety during the blow Fri afternoon, and here I thought I was in your disfavor.
I may be back mid next week.
Regards as always,
Bob M
Bob, We only had one short period of consistent fishing out deep. Sat about noon we fished the #3 Green can and caught 2 to 3 fish 3 drifts in a row. We also caught a few fish right in front of the Marina. I have been marking alot of fish in there. It was a fun shallow bite. As you already know I tied on a DT 6 and caught 3 fish on our last pass from the point to the entrance of the boat landing. Congrats on the big 5# 15 oz fish. I will be out there next week from midweek on unless the weather turns drastically. Take care.

Bill and Mark, thank you for the welcome backs! Just have to take the time to post and give my clients credit where credit is due.
