10-21-2004 Pool 4 Red WIng, Mississippi Report

Well the bite at the dam has continued to improve as expected. The numbers and quality of the fish are improving as well. Now is the time to get in on some of the fall action we have all been waiting for. The crowds have been minimal and fish like the ones pictured to the right are common.

I can honestly say a variety of presentations are catching fish. Sonars continue to be the bait of choice for most people, but I have seen a big jump in numbers of fish caught on plastics and hair jigs. The minnow bite continues to be steady too. I’m sure Dustin will put up a report very soon of a monster eye he caught yesterday on a K-Grub. That was the first “BIG” fish I have seen this fall and it’s starting right on time I would say. Here is a pic of a 19 and 20 inch caught yesterday.

I made it out a few days ago and fished for 1 ½ hours. I started with a sonar and got 3-4 fish……switched to a K-Grub and picked up one in 5 minutes and switched to a blue ¼ oz hair jig and picked up 3-4 more. Basically pick your poison right now. I don’t want this report to sound like it’s a “free for all” right now, but it’s pretty darn good. On a scale of 1-10 right now, I would give it an 8. Three reports I got this morning were “We just knocked the #$%^ out of em”……”It is Goooooooood”………”That was fun!!” ….and so on. Now yesterday was a little on the slower side, but the day before was great again. So what I’m saying is that it’s good, but not an all day non-stop action good. Another pic of some quality fish coming in now.

As for details….well with the sonars…..red, chartreuse, purple and black seem to be popular. Plastics, I have been hearing purple, blue, and firecracker. Hair jigs….blue, green, black, chartreuse have been popular. Best depths have been in the 9-17 feet, with the deeper end of that spectrum coming today. Generally I’m hearing 9-11 feet. Fish are being caught on both sides of the channel near the dam. I have had basically none to very few reports coming from the “Y” or Hay Creek and some of the other traditional “away from the dam” spots. Not to say they’re not worth trying, just haven’t talked to hardly anybody fishing those spots. Quite honestly there has been very few boats out at all, 20 or so on the weekends, but more and more are starting to show up. One last pic of some more of the same. Till next time. Good Luck to all and let the big ones go.

  1. Steve is that John Stocklasen from Delhi in your picture? He likes to fish but I didnt think he went that far up for walleyes? He lives on a lake where my folks live.

  2. We fished up there the 18th through the 21st. We caught limits of good eater fish and threw back lots of fish in the 20 to 25in. range We caught all of our fish on one-eyes with black, chartreuse, purple, and black and orange working the best for us. I have to say Steve is an excellent host and we will definately be back!!

  3. It is John Stoklasa – he heads up there a few times a year to get the big fish. Has more luck up there than at Lake Delhi.

Looks like we’ll be eating fish the next time I’m home! (Janise Stoklasa – his daughter)

  4. Thanks for the kind words Zonar. Glad you guys had a good time. You really had good luck with the one eyes. Not many guys use them here. I have seen them work great though.

Welcome to the site Janise. I’ll tell your dad you say hi.

  5. Hey Steve,

What is the latest report there? Will all of this rain have an affect on the fishing tomorrow, it the water muddy/dirty? I am considering coming down or doing pool 2.
