Mississippi River Bass Fishing Pool 7 — 10.09.04

First things first, I would like to thank Jeremy Crawford for coming up and spending the day on the water with me Saturday. It was an incredible day on the water. That being said, I would like to thank everyone for their output of sympathies for my recent medical ‘situation’. Yes, I am feeling much better.

This report, won’t be much in the way of a report but more like a photo journal of the fish we caught.

Somewhere during the course of the day, I remarked how much fun it would have been to film the days events because of the great action we had throughout the day. There’s nothing like watching a head wave move towards your topwater bait anticipating the strike. Or making cast after cast into a hole in a wingdam and catching fish on each consecutive cast. I would have to say, the real fun came trying to catch what Jeremy & I deemed the upper Miss. Pool 7 Grand Slam. That consisted of 3 species of Bass, a Sheepshead, Walleye/Sauger & Catfish. 3 of the Gr. Slam came easily enough, and the 4th proved to be a real treat. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves.

I’ll preface this journal by saying, there wasn’t really any defined pattern, as the fish were in a feeding mode brought on by the fall weather we are experiencing. Grubs, spinnerbaits, tubes, crankbaits, and a variety of topwater baits were a few of the lures we used to ‘coax’ the fish into our boat.

The first fish here was caught on topwater over a large shallow mud flat adjacent to a current seam.

This Smallie pictured here fell victim to a Bandit crankbait pulled across the face of a wingdam. This wingdam produced over 15 very nice smallies. We came back to this wingdam a couple times and caught fish every time we stopped.

I’ll note here, that this is where we decided to go for the Grand Slam. This is Jeremy’s fish, but he was hesitant to hold it after he noticed all the slime on his line. The flathead was caught on the same crankbait JC caught the Smallie on. Too much fun.

The Smallie pictured here was caught on a white k-grub on the inside corner of a wingdam. For those of you that have yet to try the Super Doo heads from BFT I highly recommend them for fishing grubs. The weedless components and extra strong & sharp hooks lend to great hookups and very few lost jigs.

  1. Actually, that’s as close as we got. We couldn’t dredge up a Sheepie.

We decided against taking any Walleye pics due to the fact anyone can catch those.

  2. Hey Blue & JC,
