White Roadrunner is the bomb!

had a guide job today on the Rock which was a comp trip from last years NRA banquet. Great guys who wanted to learn trolling on Kosh. Hit the area out from Binghams. hot bait today was baby Thunderstick jr/firetiger with 1/8 oz rubbercor 3 ft up line behind boards. Nothin’ huge but steady action–until wind picked up and somebody came wailin’ by on a surfboard.

Moved into the river from Blackhawk island to the VFW looking for walleyes, whites and winos. No winos found, but other species whacking a 1/8 oz. white Roadrunner tipped with a half-crawler threaded on the hook. Essentially just pitching toward shore, finding bottom and crawling jig back to boat.

Caught fish everywhere we stopped. Nothing big–but several nice sauger up to 19 inches between new 26 bridge and Riverfront resort…fishing one of Bola’s aces. Fish holding within 3′ of shore even at noon!
Thanked clients for supporting the NRA. They gave me a SUBSTANTIAL tip which was appreciated but not anticipated—and booked in two more days.
The bite is just beginning–two weeks from now you had better have TWO nets ready.
Hiring a guide is well worth the money if this water is new to you…and Jeff Patrick, aka “Bola” really has these fish dialed in!
