Lake Menomin Report 9/17

Lake Menomin is putting out some good fish right now. With the warm temps this weekend be prepared for some great action. Thursday conditions were less than favorable. The rain and wind caused low visibilty and lots of grass flowing through. I did manage a few eyes vertical jigging deeper water.

Today was a complete turnaround, very little grass floating around and improvement in water clairity. I started the morning vertical jigging channel edges. The best combo was dark colored hair jigs tipped with leeches. Active fish were both on the edge adjacent to deep water and on the shallow flat close by. Photo #1 is the first eye of the day, a 17" male that needs to bulk up! The best depth range today was between 13′ and 8′.

Besides jigging, livebait rigging and deadsticking also produced fish. Crawlers, leeches, and a variety of plastic all took fish. Along with the eyes a good # of smallies were feeding in the same areas. The smallies ranged from 14 to 19". The second photo is a double both taken on crawler.

Mid-morning I made a switch to trolling spinners in the same area I had been jigging. Again the fish preferred leeches. Eyes, smallies and a few pike rounded out the day. All presentations are producing fish right now. Get out and enjoy the fantastic weather and the fantastic fishing. I will see you on the water, Don.
