RCL League Day 2 at Bays de Noc

I’m back from the RCL League Finals at Bays de Noc I finished in 61st place on the Co-Angler side.

On day one my partner and I caught one walleye weighing 6.14lbs, pulling cranks on lead line. On day 2 my new partner and I zeroed we had one big fish on but lost it before it got to the boat if it was a walleye it would have been a good one.

I can not complain though, all in all I had a great year fishing as a co-angler for my first year, it was a blast and you can bet your bottom dollar that I will be back next year.

If anyone is going to fish the RCL League next year as a boater give me a call as I am looking for a boater to sign up for all three Tournaments with.

CONGRATS TO BUCKSHOT ON MAKING IT TO THE TOP 15 WAY TO GO BUDDY!!!!

I talked to John after the weigh in on Friday his partner and him hit a TRIPPLE first thing in the morning and got all three in the boat!!!

On day one Buckshot drew boat #6, boaters keep the same boat # the second day. I drew boat #7 on day one, for day two I was moved to boat #8. I missed getting paired with Buckshot by one boat #, had I been paired with John I would have had a total 21.19lbs which would have put me in 6th place on the Co-Angler side on day 2 Oh well that’s the way it goes, there is always next year!

GO BUCKSHOT!!!!!

  1. Steve;
    We all had a great time. I caught 1 fish on day 1, 7-10 but got a 8 ounce penalty for non releasable fish. The fish was alive but couldn’t stay upright. Day 2 was a real treat. I had the worse partner that I have every had. We lost 2 fish due to him not letting me help with the planner board,lost one big fish when the split ring on my purple reef runner on the back set of hooks pulled off about 10 feet from the boat(due to partner horseing in the fish). My partner was rooting for his partner and not caring if we caught any fish.One of the people that I teamed up with asked why my partner was ripping the planner board in and horseing the fish in, my comment I can’t post. I talked to Sonny and Mark and they said that his day one partner complained the same. It was a new expeirence fishing Lake Michigan and was a blast.

  2. I hear ya Jim you never know until you spend some time in the boat with a new guy what there skill level is. For the most part I had good partners for every tournament this year, I am already looking forward to next year! Sorry I did not get a chance to meet you this weekend, I will make sure to do so next year, maybe we will get paired up next year.

  3. Steve,

    I think there will be several of us who enter as boaters next year. I know of 3 off the top of my head right now. Touch base with me after the first of year.

  4. It was a very interesting week of fishing. Jbob, myself and our 2 other partners we were working with had figured out a pretty good pattern for the big fish. We were trolling Reef Runners on the various shoals and were catching some nice fish. The smallest we boated was 24″ with many much larger. Even though we could only have 2 over 23″, we gambled that getting 2 of the big girls each day would be enough, and it was. The problem is that we weren’t able to convert all our bites into fish in the well. I think the main problem was that we stuck with trolling Fireline and should have switched to mono on those big fish. I’m thinking that having the stretch in the line may have helped us boat more of our bites. Oh well, it was a learning experience. It was also amazing catching big catfish out there on Reef Runners as well. A definate suprise!

  5. “you never know what their skill level is”

    It takes NO skill to be an idiot and rip fish off that you have no intension of landing. Most fisherman, especially co-anglers, are very serious about learning new skills and being competitive and having fun. having someone pulling fish off intensionally IS NOT ANY FUN. if this person did it also in the 1st round, maybe they should not be asked back or allowed in in future tourneys. That’s about the lowest in Tourney Sportsmanship. Jack..
