Fishing on Lake Wisconsin has been pretty good overall if you are willing to put in some work. We spent quite a bit of time searching on Tuesday but in the end it all payed off. This first photo is of a nice 20.5 inch sauger that Richard Straub caught and released on a crawler harness.
Nice fish Richard!
After the water cools down and the Lake flips over, I expect to see quite a few of these bigs saugers coming into the boat. Last season between October 1rst and December 31rst, we had a total of 10 saugers over 20" come in the boat on Lake Wisconsin. All were released of course, due to the fact that they fall into the slot restrictions for walleyes and saugers on this body of water.
This fall looks like it will be even better for giant saugers. There aren’t to many places a guy can go and find better fishing for big saugers than Lake Wisconsin!
Richard and I started out casting crank baits in the morning hours, but the sun burned off the fog in a hurry and was shining brightly for most of the day. Just the kind of day I hate the most for fishing. Bright sun and a slight wind that quit completely a couple of times during the day.
By noon, we still had nothing to show for our efforts except a bunch of sheephead, white bass and one smallie.
Finally decided that trolling and casting crank baits just wasn’t going to cut it and decided to break out the bottom bouncers and crawler harnessess.
After spending and hour or two locating active fish, we ended up having ourselves a pretty good afternoon.
Richard had set a goal at the beginning of the day to have enough fillets for a good fish fry. Apparently, its been awhile since the last one.
It definitely took a pretty good effort on both our parts, but in the end, it sure was worth it.
Nice bunch of fish there Richard! Maybe we’ll see you in that open boat seat again before the end of the year.
