Mississippi River Walleye and Bass Report

Our last four trips out onto the Mighty Mississippi have been very tough on finding Big walleye’s. Our biggest fish the last four days was 20 inches. If I had know that at the time I would have taken 20 pictures of it. However it was the first fish of the day on Friday and I thought alright..Just let it go with no photo. The rest is history.

Took her early on rocks casting cranks.

We finished the day with 4 legal eyes.

So you gotta see big fish, well we are getting them they just are not the right species!

This picture of this first beauty in excess of 10 pounds, was taken on a bucktail. The location I will keep secret.

We have been getting some very nice bass..with some Northerns thrown in.

Mike caught this 18 incher on a crank bait.

While we were working some rip rap on lower Pool 4.

We only took 4 walleye on Saturday.

Our only presentation of late has been casting cranks and pitching Bucktails.

All of my live bait stuff has been mostly small and alot of fish feeding.

With the very low flows you need to find current to find the active fish.

Mike and I decided to go to Pool 5 on Sunday.

Here is a shot of Mike in the lock on the way home.

We caught some nice Bass and northerns.

Picked up some small sauger near the dam.

But Our trip to Pool 5 put a zero on the board for Walleyes.

It was a fun day even though it rained off and on all day.

There was plenty of stories and lots of smiles.

Another boat load of sheepies.

We had one smallie that was close to 19 inches.

Monday we ran up to the upper end of Pool 4.

Where Mike hit Pay dirt a 30 incher..

We caught three of these bad girls within an hour talk about sore wrists.

This was his last trip of the season.

We finished the day with only two legal eyes.

He is headed back to the North land.

School starts next week and he has already missed two football practices.

You know this young man has really become a fantastic fisherman.

Looking forward to next year..things can just get better.

  1. Looks like you guys popped at least one of almost everything the river has to offer!

Just curious, up on 4 and 5 are you still fishing summer patterns, or have the fish transitioned into fall yet?

  2. You caught some nice fish. I think the digital camera has added a lot to fishing both catch & release and sharing photos with others.

No we are still fishing low flow tough Aug Sept walleye bite. The water temps and early daylight hours need to kick in more. Before it will change..

But the Bass are going wild..It is the best bite going right now.

So get out and slam a few hooks home into those Bronze CARP…

    Hey Daredevil

Yes Sir I just love my new Digital. I didn’t used to like to take photos..But man this is so easy now…And I think I’m getting better at it.. I am a far cry from a photo or computer Wiz…

I have a Nikon 2500 Coolpix..along with all Dells Soft ware..it is just plain fun.

I sent Mike home with a CD of all his fish from the summer put to music and slideshow..waycool.

    Later
