Iowa Ponds – Bull Gills

Got an early start Sunday morning and my 10 year old son and I made it out to a pond for a few hours of blue gill/crappie fishing. The bite started hot and heavy with big bull gills hitting jigs with 1 1/2″ twisters. Here’s my son Andrew with a couple of nice 10″ gills.

We also caught a couple of nice crappies that literally inhaled the jigs. This one was about 13″ but Andrew lost one at the boat that was much bigger.

Amazingly, the kid let Dad catch a couple. We had a great time and took 16 nice gills and 1 nice crappie home for the frying pan. What a wonderful day.
