I went to Clear Lake Tue,s afternoon hoping to have a good trip to report. I was feeling extra pressure this trip[ as it was going to be my maiden voyage as a feild staff reporter.I was just getting into a bag of cheeze curls when Mr excitement showed up. Was’t it nice he posed for such a cool pic
I,m not going to BS you I,m no musky fishermen so every thing here is contributed to luck even the way I hooked him as he was hooked in the side of the head.I figure he must have taken a swipe at my shad rap and missed. If this is the only lucky musky I ever catch I sure got my moneys worth as he jumped, tore up the boat, made me a slimy mess and deffinetly gave me a heart check up.I,m sorry I do not have any stats on this fish my biggest concern was to get him back in the water as soon as possible. I guessed him at 18# and 38 in. I had a serious conversation with him on eating my walleyes before releasing
Now for a quick report on the walleyes. The lake was like glass and I knew the fishing was going to be tough. We started trollingthe west end of lake in 9 to 10 ft of water with absolutely nothing for our efforts. After consulting with the wife we decided to head to the artifical weed beds once again we duplicated our efforts with no results. At this time I was starting to get real nervous as I have gotten a walleye on every outing so far this year and I wanted to keep the streak going
Thew only water we had not given any consideration to was sand since we were only a short distance away it was easy to give it a shot. Bingo first pass a 16 in walleye and a couple of stripers the next pass is when ole toothy one hit all these fish were in 7 to 8 ft of water trolling at 2.5 mi per hr with the baits just tapping bottom. The walleye came on a Berkley frenzy minnow the musky on a silver black #7 shad rap.We continued to troll are with no more results I have a theory that possibly the musky sent them walleyes scooting. As our day was nearing a end I mentioned to the wife about a spot at the west end of lake that was almost a duplicate to the area we were in. We got there and first pass produced a short fish and a 15 in walleye on the same techniques used earlier. Our day finally ran out but today was going to make a heck of a memory
Thanks for the report Joe!! Nice fish, no matter if you tried to catch her or not. You can probably get a pretty good idea of length from the photo of you holding her, measure yourself. Again, thanks!!!
