Took the kids up to the Lake on Sunday and boy did they have a ball. We were dragging crankbaits in 6-20 ft of water at approximately 2.5 mph according to the GPS. The whites were just hammering chrome wally divers. The first picture is my daughter Sam with a nice 12 incher.
We fished the marina point down to Sand Piper boat ramp and also the large beach point south of the marina. The 2nd picture is my son Andrew with a nice fat white.
We only fished for about 2 hours as the kids wanted to do some swimming. We had a great time and caught probably 20-30 whites. Sure wish the wipers would turn on. The last picture is indicative of the good time that we had.
What size range do you see on the wipers? I know they have the potential to grow much larger than the whities. I caught a couple dingers down on Table Rock about 8 years ago and they pulled like mad!
Glad to see those kids with the smiley faces. Thats great a family being together and havin some fishin fun. I might just have to give Saylorville a try after that report.
James, the state record is darned close to 19 pounds. Most of the fish we catch in the resevoirs are whites, but I’ve picked up a few small hybrids on leeches while catfishing at the North end of Coralville.
The whites should be coming out in force this time of year. In the East part of the state, try the South bank just upriver from Mehaffe bridge.
Sounds like you had a great time on the water. The whites are hitting good now and should for quite sometime. We have been getting them in the 12 to 16 inch range in the 6 to 10 foot range. It seems that anything crome will work. I’ve been moving a bit faster 3 to 3.9 mph. Got a nice 14 inch smallie Wed. Hope to be out Sat am. Might see you out there . Jim
Most wipers that you catch are bigger because they no longer are stocking them. Usually when you get one it is a good one, 5-7 lbs or bigger.
