After having a wild time on Lake Pepin all summer I finally saw a slow down this week. I still had some nice quality fish but the numbers dipped a little this week. Well, unless you count about a million sheep head in the boat. I hate sheepies, I hate sheepies, I hate sheepies. UGHH!
Most of my time this week was still out on the lake. Here is Mark Gosse of Wabasha with one of his walleyes he caught with me after work one night. Feeling sick of catching sheephead all week I decided it was time to move to the lower end of pool 4. Most of my time on the lower end has been working live bait in front of wingdams and other structures. The early morning, before boat traffic, has been the best for me. Here is Jeff Addison of Chippewa falls with his biggest catch of the day. He had two quality walleyes this day. If I remember the first fish almost ripped the pole right of his hands it hit so hard. Catching walleyes on wingdams are a true battle. One thing fighting the fish but you also have to fish the current. I had a great time Jeff keep selling those Lunds.
One thing that did help was to move around looking for active fish. Once a couple of walleyes were taking in an area I would move on.
If you like sunnies the bite is on. The wingdams seem packed right now full of big blue gills. I loaded up on a dozen of nice eaters that went straight to the fry pan on sunday. Man what a meal.
If you like bass fishing. The bass are in full force right now on the lower end. Most of them can be seen early in the morning or late in the evening working the surface along with tons of white bass. This is a great way to break a kid into fishing.
