Can the walleye fishing get any better than it is right now? If you are into huge numbers of walleyes with occasional 24 inch plus fish, don’t like wind, don’t like crowds, like temperatures under 85, than this is the place to be!
I have had several 100 walleye outings. Last evening I had over 100 in 2 hours. The biggest was 28.25 inches. Granted the average fish is 13 to 14 inches but there are enough 17 to 20 plus inchers mixed in to make anybodies day. Plus there is the added whopper bonus fish that are very common to add to the days excitment. Imagine June fishing with a hundred eaters mixed in.
I’ve doing best anchored with slipbobbers tipped with leeches or jigs fished over the side of the boat. Don’t be overly agressive in jigging. In fact, leave the rod alone at times and fish no more than an inch or three off bottom. Pulling cranks works too but you can’t get the numbers you do when anchored. In fact I’ve even caught walleyes pitching cranks in shallow bays around cattails. Weed beds also are hot now.
