I had the pleasure to fish with a great guy last night, Nathan Mueller. Nate is a 10 year old neighbor of mine who I have been promising to take out fishing for sometime now. Well, both of our schedules came together last night and we were able to get out on the water. Here’s Nate with the fisrt two walleyes that he ever caught,a 19.5" and a 17 incher.
Nate and I hit the water at 3.30 pm last night. We headed down river and started to troll a clam flat that I have had good luck on in the past week. We were trolling Blue Shad shad raps in 6.5 to 8 ft. of water. Thirty yards into the first pass we had a fish on. Nate handled this fish like a seasoned pro. After boating a 19.5" walleye Nate need a little break. A few minute later we had another one on. This fish just wore Nate out. When it came to the boat I realized that it was truly a HOG! This fish went well over 27". I reached for the net and all I could hear was the sound of disappointment. The fish had won the battle that Nate fought so well. Nate wound up boating a nice 17"er after that. We made a few more passes and hooked up three more times with none of them making it to the net.
I would like to thank Nathan for making this trip one of my best ones out in sometime. Just the smile on his face of being out there was better than anything that I have experienced is some time. Since Nate caught all the fish on this trip, I thought that it was fitting that he be the one to pull into port. Thanks again Nate.
TAKE A KID FISHIN’
HEY TONY!!!! Looks like you made that Young-Mans Day, GREAT REPORT I bet you won’t have to ask him twice, ever again. Great job Nate
Way to go Tony!!! Nothing like making a kid smile.
Great report Tony It’s always fun when you can put a smile on those young ones. The future of our anglers are very important. Keep’em smiling.
What speeds were you trolling at Tony? Were you running boards also or right behind the boat?
How do you like that Alumacraft?
Hey Jeff. I was trolling between 1.9 and 2.1 mph(gps). I really like my Alumacraft. It has everything that I need for fishing the river. No boards, just long lining with two rods, I was keeping it simple and it seemed to work out just fine.
Good report, spoiled for the first time out, but I am sure that he’s hooked now! Nice fish!
