Brainerd area! Fish Jumping in the Boat!

For your official Nisswa Fishing Report look no further. Our summer time fishing has been tremendous. Lots of bass, northern pike, and panfish are pulling on the line. Most walleye anglers have given up until cooler weather arrives.

The fish of choice lately has been the Largemouth bass. We are catching boatloads of nice ones. They are biting well on plastic worms or weedless jigs tipped with a minnow. Leeches are also working well. Try working the weed flats or edges in 6-14 feet of water. Some of the best lakes this week are Hubert, North Long or the Whitefish Chain. A few lucky anglers have caught and released bass up to 21 inches. If Smallmouth bass are what you are after Mille Lacs has been hot. Just about every shallow rockpile has some smallies on it. They’re hitting small crankbaits, tube jigs, or lively redtail chubs. It is a great chance to get into some trophy fish.

Our Northern Pike action has been steady. Nice fish have been striking spinnerbaits that are trolled along the edges of the weeds. Lots of nice pike in the 7-10 pound range are being caught. Evenings have been good for bobber anglers using Lite Northern size sucker minnows. Set up in 12-16 feet on the edges of the weeds for consistent action. Some good pike lakes now are Gull, Nisswa, Roy and the Whitefish Chain.

Bluegills and Crappies continue to keep the anglers busy on all of our lakes. All you need is some worms or small leeches and a small hair jig or plain hook and a bobber. Panfish are very active in 6-12 feet of water. It’s a good way to keep the kids busy while you relax.

Enjoy our summer and Good Luck!
