Good Times! Nisswa Area Fishing!

Times are good here in the Nisswa area. Good weather and great fishing reports. This warm weather has the fish on a feeding frenzy. We’ve been connecting with Largemouth bass on many lakes in the Nisswa area. Some of our favorites lately are Cullen, Hubert, Gull, and Whitefish. Lots of different baits are working well. Anglers are having good success using jigs and plastic worms over and around the cabbage flats about 6-12 feet deep. Position your boat in 15-16 feet and cast shallow and retrieve slowly. You can vary your retrieve according to you best results but a slow retrieve seems to work best. Berkley Power Worms in any dark color is the bait of choice for our guides.

The walleye fishing remains slow. Anglers are catching one here and there but nothing too exciting. With the warming water temps there is a lot of young baitfish in the lakes for the walleyes to eat. That seems to make the fishing a little tough. We have caught a few lately on Whitefish and Gull Lake. Walleyes are tucked up in the weeds so work your baits along the weedlines for best results. The best depths are 13-17 feet and Redtails or leeches are the top baits. Some anglers are also trolling shad raps over the weeds.

Pike fishing has been sporadic but this hot muggy weather is helping the bite. We had good success trolling spinnerbaits tipped with a minnow or an Uncle Josh Pork Trailer. Try speed trolling over the weed tops in 8-10 feet. Hang on good and tight because when the pike hits it will hit hard. Good pike lakes lately are North Long, Edwards, or Gull.

The Crappie and Sunfish action has been good. Crappies are starting to bite good in the evenings. Slow trolling with jigs and plastic tails is the best technique. Work slowly in 8-12 feet about and hour before sunset until dark. Sunfish are biting small leeches and wax worms. Try the small lakes and bays in 8-10 feet. All you need is a small hair jig and bobber and some bait. They are really aggressive lately. There are lots of small ones but with patience you’ll get some keepers.

Keep checking with us for the latest fishing reports. Our guides are on the water daily getting the hottest reports. Good Luck this week!
