I hit the water for a few hours Friday evening and had a successful outing. I concentrated on fishing backwater areas that had a mixture of lily pads and wood. The fish that came off of the pads were holding in areas that had slight current coming by. A white texas rigged tube caught the fish, while on the wood a green pumpkin tube worked. The picture is myself with a good 2 1/4 lb. bass. It was a beautiful evening on the water.
On Saturday the fishing was good for numbers, but we had difficulty finding the quality fish. Again wood and pads with slight current proved best. Once the sun got up overhead, I hit the slop and caught a lot of fish, but nothing of any size. About half of the fish out of the slop were caught on a tube, after the fish missed my frog.
Sunday was the most successful fishing day this weekend. The fog that held around till 9, allowed us to fish the channel and catch some awesome smallmouth and largemouth. The fish were very active on top and were smashing chug bugs, and other poppers. Swithing up to a crankbait and tube also proved beneficial. The areas we hit had a good amount of current and the baitfish along with the mayflies gave the fish plenty to eat. Along with the rock areas, we found a sand flat that had some nice weeds, that had some largemouth around it. The biggest fish for the weekend was a 3 lb. 10 oz. smallie that my brother caught. Our 5 biggest bass of the morning would’ve gone just a shade over 12 lb., so it was a very successful morning and a great way to close out a weekend!!
Glenn,
Thanks for the great report. How are the water conditions on pool 10? At least its been a week sense a major rain.
The river conditions are finally starting to get to where they should be this time of year. It isn’t as low, as last summer, which isn’t a bad thing.
Yeah Bass Boy, I hope the water levels dont drop like last year. Wreck some very good spots, but makes the bass concentrate in one large whole.
