It was great feeling to back back up in the Leech Lake area. It had been way too long between visits. Rigging and jigging for eyes was the game plan for the day. Starting out of Walker Bay we set out for some of the well known spots on the lake.
I wanted to hit as many spots as possible to see if I could put together any pattern. Covering water and varying depths, it was about an hour before we made contact. The first picture is Jimmy "Ray-Ray" Greenwood with the first fish of the day. Fish taped out at 21.5" and released in fine shape. We were running a combination of livebait on Lindy rigs. For this time of year the bite was not real aggressive! We picked up a few eater size fish working depths of 12 to 15 ft on flats near main lake points.
During the afternoon hours we switched to fishing the heavier weeds in Walker Bay. This provided the best action of the day. Lots of perch and rock bass with an occassional eye mixed in. Depths between 12 and 20 ft all produced fish. Slowly lifting the bait over the weeds and letting it slide off the other side triggered lots of bites.
Overall it was a great day to be on the water! A chop would have helped though, the lake laid flat all day. See you on the water, Don
Thanks for the report Don, see you this weekend at the RCL
