7-15-04 West Metro, Eagle Lake, Bass Fishing

Yes Bass fishing! With a potential storm moving through the area, my son and I hit the local lake for an evening of casting spinner baits and pitching plastics. My preferred locations on this lake are anywhere that the Willows overhang the waters edge. With the thick shoreline vegetation we had to pick and chose through a few of these spots but had some success on them. This first bass pictured hit on Copper willow leaf spinner bait with a black skirt.

After ducking in and out of a couple of these spots we started to work the weed lines. We switched to topwater buzz baits due to the thick vegetation fouling our spinner baits on almost every cast. This move quickly produced fish with most fish being in the 12-inch range, but it was action nonetheless.

About an hour into the evening I thought my son found God. As I turned around to see him jump back and yell “Holy Jesus Christ”. There was a splash and a flash at the side of the boat as a mid 30″ Muskie decided to take a run at his chartreuse spinner bait. There was another boat anchored just off our bow and we all got a good laugh out of that as he stood there patting his hand on his heart. The panfish bite was not going for the boats we worked around and talked with this evening.
Here’s the largest catch of the evening a nice 18 incher.

This Lake has limited parking for vehicles with trailers so getting there early or before rush hour is critical. By 5:30 my son counted 12 fishing boats and 3 ski boats out on the water. With a total area of less than 200 acres you can cover the entire fishable shoreline in a couple hours. This lake also contains Panfish, Walleye, Northern and Muskie.

I'm married to my biggest supporter Denise and we have two children, Josh and Nikki. Fish primarily on Mille Lacs lake in central Minn. My favorite type of fishing is for Walleyes but will fish for anything that swims!
