Tainter Lake Fishing Report 7/15

A good walleye and white bass bite is taking shape on the upper lake. Usually this time of year is good for some panfish action on Tainter. Trolling spinners and cranks can add up to a decent mixed bag. It did not take long this morning to get a pattern dialed in. Within the first ten minutes I had boated two eyes and missed a few bites also.

The best action was on the main lake flats in depths from 8 to 11 ft. Running a zig-zag trolling pass and every so often crossing the river channel. Crawlers and leeches on spinners and cranks all provided action. Walleyes were hitting all three and the bass were popping spinners tipped with jumbo leeches. The first picture is two of the better producing lures for the day.

The best troling speeds today were between 1.4 to 1.7mph. It also triggered the fish to ocassionally pause the motor or make real slow turns. Firetiger or perch color seemed to be the preference today. I did not make contact with any of the slab crappies or big perch but some fair sized white’s made up for it. The action on the local lakes should be hot for the weekend so get out and enjoy.

See you on the water, Don.
