With the water temp hitting 70 I was looking for the trolling bite to be hot. Friday afternoon I pulled Leinieman away from his busy schedule and set out for crankbait action. Our plan of action was to troll the main lake flats with cranks and spinners. "Leinie" pulled his favorite crank out of tacklebox and proceeded to tell me some stories! Leinieman did not even get the lure down to the desired depth before it was hammered by a pike. (Leinieman made me swear that I could not reveal his secret color)
We covered water fast looking for active fish and if they were relating to a certain side of the flat. Along with running #5 and #7 cranks we were also running crawlers and leeches on spinnner rigs. The 1st photo is Steve with a nice eye taken on a spinner/crawler combo.
Working depths on between 8 and 11 ft on the main lake produced a few eyes, perch, and gills. The bite was not on fire though. A slower approch seemed to be best. The bites came when trolling speeds were kept under 1.5 mph.
The few eyes that Leinieman caught were taken on spinner/crawler combos. The panfish were hitting cranks.
Look for the trolling bite to heat up soon. See you on the water, Don
Nice report Don. Lienie you are a shadow of your former self. Way to go!
Favorite color is of course Creamy Dark! Fishing wasn’t as hot as I exxpected either but heck we were out on the water fishing which I love to do.
I don’t know about a shadow of myself but I have lost some pounds and lately I’ve just been trying to maintain that loss.
Thanks to Don and Tom
