With cold temps across the ice belt and unstable weather front I have found myself switching gears a bit. I have spending a little mod time in th otter and permanent and less time chasing perch. January is a great time to chase basin slabs in deep water.
Basin fishing is mot as simple as just finding deepwater. Look for deep water adjacent to shallow flats where you caught crappie in december. These fish are usually go covering over deep mud adjacent to shallow sand or rock. Small points on the Basin edge maybe only 15 feet long are producing good fish for me and friends.
On the business end of things 1/32 oz flashchamps in glow red and glow Orange have been top producers. Paired with a crappie minnow and a slow up an down jogging action have been enticing light buyers. I use 3lb suffix ice magic with my crappie set ups. Less active fish are being turned by learve jigs in glow with a few spikes. Bite Windows have been mostly after dark so don’t be afraid to stay out late.

Nice pies. I know you mentioned perch for the GTG. Any chance of getting on some nice pies at that time out there. Are they close to where the perch are?
