Lake Pepin and Lower Pool 4 Report

It must be the month for kids to shine. The last couple of weeks we have had the pleasure to see a lot of kids catch some of there biggest fish ever. Those are the moments in ones guiding career that will never get forgotten. Here is last report of kids fishing adventures with us, Last kids Report

The Lake and lower river have seen some major changes in this last week. The river has dropped over 3’ in the last week. The bite is in great shape for us right now. I worked the Lake over pretty good this last week and have seen some good results. The biggest key was to be on the move and pay close attention to your depth and fish finder. While most people that I have talked to have been struggling there a few things that may help you out this next week. Like I had mentioned believe in you fish finder. For me I run a Lowerance x-18c( they do not sponsor me) and have faith in everything it shows me. While most people were working the bottom I keyed on fish not necessarily on the bottom. Adjusting to what the graph tells you will make a big difference in your fish catching. Areas on the lake I have been concentrating on has been Maiden Rock, little piney, Stockholm, and Maple springs. All areas produced some nice fish. Most fish have been averaging between 17-22 inches with a lot of cigar size coming too the boat also.

Here is Pat Tichy with one her best fish. She was on fire this day. She out did every one in the boat catching the first 7 walleyes of the trip. I am sure you will be able to brag about that around the campfire this week. I had a blast with you guys and look forward to fall with you.

The lower lake and river has been really heating up this week also. Wing dams and funneling areas have been the best places to key on. Jigs with bait and lindy rigs have been the best go to bait. Austin Meisner(above) nailed his biggest walleye ever this week. He was dragging a jig in about 11’ of water off sand flat. Other areas that are producing in good numbers are any clam beds you can find. Working bait or pulling small cranks have been working for us. If fishing wing dams concentrate on dams with side cuts or first ones on bend in the river.

The biggest challenge this weekend will be boat traffic. The Grand Excursion will be going up the river so please be careful. My Suggestion would be get on the river early and leave early to avoid the traffic.
