Walleyes have been very active on the west end of this 10,400 acre basin lake in Rock/Jefferson county for several weeks now, with trolled crankbaits on the west end of the lake very effective.
Koshkonong is near flood stage, at about twice the normal pool levels. Water is now 8-10 feet where normally it is 4-8.
The result is a substantial amount of current where the lake necks down at the outlet on the west end to resemble more riverine structure. Normally there is little if any current here at normal pool.
Walleyes are hitting small crankbaits trolled at 2.2-2.6 mph. Firetiger, perch and chrome/black all good colors, but firetiger is the best.
I’ve narrowed presentation down to #5 jointed ShadRaps trolled 78 feet back and CD5 Wally Divers back 66 feet behind planer boards.
Most fish are coming when trolling WITH the current–but enough hit going upstream to make a circular troll-a-thon worthwhile.
Thanks for the report Ted and the lesson on the water. How about some of those pic’s we took? Also thanks for handing me the rod the first time to catch the big fish. Otherwise all I would of been doing is netting your fish and planner boards.
gonna send that one of you to the Gazette for possible publication on 7/4. Don’t know how to send digitals to the IDA website…too bad. Bet folks would like to see foto of that 12 lb. eye you nearly caught a couple weeks ago!
