The action is starting to pick up on the local lakes. After the cool spring, and the high-dirty water followed by a may fly hatch. Things are getting back to normal! The live bait rigging bite has stayed consistent but if you are targeting eyes, the quality is way down. On Monday I had the pleasure of fishing with John and Jerry Kittle. John is the Northern Division Account Rep. For Kemps. Thanks to Steve Greene, John and Kemps will be at the July ARM event.
We started out the morning livebait rigging for eyes. Lindy rigs with a leech has been the top producer since the water temp hit above 60. John and Jerry are two good sticks and boated plenty of eyes. the problem was we were not able to boat a keeper. All of us did lose 3lbers though!
Our next move was to troll the main lake flats. Running both cranks and spinners on 3 way rigs brought us some fair action for awhile. Perch, crappie, and gills all were caught on #5 jointed Raps. We also picked up a few eyes on Fishscale spinners. The best speed was right around 1.5mph in 8 to 10ft.
Today’s plan was to leave the livebait rigs at home and stick to trolling 3 ways. My partner for today was Joe Huber. Again trolling both cranks and spinners behind 3 ways produced fish. Working the main lake flat yielded a variety of species. The FishScale spinners tipped with a leech was the preference of the few eyes we managed. Joe in the first photo with an eye caught on a spinner rig. Perch and whitebass also preferred the spinner leech combination.
Today the pike action also picked up. That was are best action on cranks. #5 blue or craw color was the best today. 2nd Photo is Joe bring in another pike. Running the cranks between 1.5 to 2mph worked the best. Looks like a decent weekend to get out and enjoy. The trolling action is heating up! I will see you on the water, Dom
