This year has been super natural for my boat on catching monster fish! Fish are scattered everywhere and can be caught in different locations everyday. Both friends and clients alike have been satisfied with the action that lake vermilion has been producing this august. I have always liked this month as it’s a warm water month and I feel like i am chasing active fish…aka bucktail bite!
On some of the calmer days i have been casting baits that are deeper in the water column and it has produced some true beauties. These days seem like nothing will happen and could be a very tough bite until your bulldog gets completely T-Boned and your calcutta is screaming drag!
With different weather conditions such as cloudy/windy days comes completely different techniques. These days I have done best burning bucktails up shallow and staying HI AND TIGHT! This is a method that has been a bread and butter for me in the past summer periods and has produced some very good results.
The water in the past few days has reached the 80-82 degree mark with warmer weather so i have been chasing some walleyes and having quite a bit of success. We are hoping for some cooler nights and rain to bring the temps back down to a safe level. A break from musky fishing is not always a bad thing as it looks like I will be testing my old chef skills and breaking out some new walleye dishes! Until my next report keep casting and catch your own LIVING LEGEND!!
Great Report AJ
Here are some photos from the past month….as you will notice all of these fish are very big and very healthy. The first picture is of my new personal longest fish at 54×23. This fish was caught in the middle of a hot sunny day and holy cow did she smack my madussa! Enjoy the pictures everybody and let me know if you are interested in searching out your own lake vermilion LIVING LEGEND!!
Some more pictures of family, friends, and clients from the past month or so. This month will go down as one of the best in history and I will be looking forward to the month that will top it. most of these fish are in the 48-52 inch range and LARGE AND IN CHARGE!
Nice job buddy! I gotta get up there one of these days… and if anybody else is heading up that way, it’d probably be stupid to not fish with AJ…
Thanks a lot for the positive feedback Ryan! You are welcome up anytime… Hopefully you pick a window where the bigger fish are up.
As for your second statement, it may be smart to take advantage of a guide on lake vermilion. I have heard mixed results from locals and tourists ranging from a few lazy follows to people catching fish like they own the lake! On a week long trip a guide who lives on the lake can surely shorten the learning curve.
